Title A name given to the resource Cité Bournazel Subject The topic of the resource habitat collectif Description An account of the resource Depuis les années vingt, et plus particulièrement dans les années cinquante et soixante, le Maroc a servi de lieu d’expérimentation pour les architectes et les urbanistes du monde entier. Ainsi, la Cité Bournazel, parmi d ‘autres, incarne ces réflexions internationales sur le logement social et la notion de Grand Ensemble. Située sur un ancien camp militaire, la Cité Bournazel devait être la plus grande opération d’habitat économique, en hauteur, réalisée au Maroc. L’ambition des promoteurs était de créer une Ville nouvelle composée d’ensembles d’habitation accessibles aux différentes classes sociales. Bien qu’elle ait été construite selon le principe de production d’éléments préfabriqués, un soin particulier a été apporté aux espaces de vie. Les habitants avaient accès à deux centres commerciaux et artisanaux, à des services administratifs et à des équipements de jeux, sportifs et scolaires. Cette cité a été réservée dans un premier temps aux fonctionnaires français, aux réfugiés européens de la seconde guerre mondiale et à des Américains de la base d’aviation de Nouaceur. Et à partir des années soixante, la population marocaine s’y est installé plus massivement. La Cité Bournazel demeure un quartier vivant qui continue à se développer dans un tissu urbain devenu dense et continu. La Cité Lafarge est la première cité ouvrière que l’architecte Edmond Brion conçoit sans son associé, Auguste Cadet. Elle est constituée d’un dédale de ruelles et de maisons. Son enceinte rectangulaire est dotée d’une porte monumentale surmontée d’un toit à 4 pans recouvert de tuiles vertes. Depuis les années 2000, cette porte a connu quelques modifications et rajouts. Les destructions à l’intérieur sont importantes. Contrairement aux cités de la SOCICA ou de la COSUMA, il ne s’agit pas seulement de surélévations mais de réelles transformations qui modifient en profondeur la structure d’origine Encore aujourd’hui, la population éprouve un profond attachement et une certaine fierté à l’égard de cette cité.
